The Director General of Sports, Luis Cervera, reiterated the Generalitat’s support for pilota during the presentation of the professional individual championships in escala i corda and raspall—the 2026 Generalitat President’s Trophy—which took place at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit.
Luis Cervera highlighted the “impressive history” of this tournament, which the Generalitat continues to support, since “it is the culmination, the ultimate showcase of all the work that has been done to promote our local sport.”
“As the Generalitat has always done, we continue to support this competition, just as we stand behind grassroots sports and other pilota-related competitions, because it is a way to connect our roots with the future of sports in the Valencian Community,” as demonstrated by the Valencian national team’s most recent participation in the Pilota World Championship held in Argentina a few weeks ago.
Cervera also wanted to highlight the balance between tradition and innovation by holding the presentation at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit. “We wanted to combine the tradition and the iconic status of this sport, which is so deeply rooted in our culture, with the innovation and international reach that the Circuit embodies.”
A total of 24 male and female players will compete for the title in the 41st edition of the Individual Escala i Corda Championship; the 40th Men’s Individual Raspall Championship; and the 17th Women’s Individual Raspall Championship.
The event was also attended by the president of the Valencian Pilota Federation, Vicent Molines, as well as the director of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, Nicolás Collado, and Caixabank’s director of Institutional Affairs for the Valencian Community, Jaime Casas.
